The Painter
Pontormo
1494–1557 · Florentine · Mannerism
Pontormo (1494–1557) was a Florentine painter whose work has passed into the public domain. That is what lets this studio reproduce it — any of the paintings listed below can be painted by hand, in oils on linen canvas.
Associated with Mannerism.
Reproducing this painter
Mannerism stretches anatomy and compresses space on purpose, in acid, artificial colour. The distortions are the subject, so a copyist who quietly corrects the proportions destroys the painting while making it look more correct.
