The Painter
1838–1891 · French · Barbizon school
Léon Germain Pelouse (1838–1891) was a French painter whose work has passed into the public domain. That is what lets this studio reproduce it — any of the paintings listed below can be painted by hand, in oils on linen canvas.
Associated with Barbizon school.
Realism gave ordinary people the scale history painting had reserved for gods and kings, and refused to flatter them. The paint is frank, often applied with a knife, and the copy must resist prettifying what was deliberately plain.
