The Painter

Karl Bryullov

1799–1852 · Russian · Romanticism

Karl Bryullov (1799–1852) was a Russian painter whose work has passed into the public domain. That is what lets this studio reproduce it — any of the paintings listed below can be painted by hand, in oils on linen canvas.

Associated with Romanticism.

Reproducing this painter

Romantic painting was made fast and in high contrast, against an academy that wanted drawing and restraint. The loose handling is the argument, so tidying it into a careful finish is the surest way to kill the picture.
