Description
This reproduction follows “Imaginary Portrait of Shundai Dazai”, dated late 1700s–1800s and held by Cleveland Museum of Art. The source credits the maker as Tani Bunchō (Japanese, 1763–1841).
Tani Bunchō’s portrait is explicitly imaginary and posthumous. It recalls the Japanese Confucian scholar Dazai Shundai, rather than presenting a likeness observed during the sitter’s life.
Choose an art print or an oil interpretation on canvas, then select your size and finish. The digitized composition keeps its proportions; the original object’s measurements, where known, do not limit the reproduction sizes offered.
The original object’s medium is recorded below using the museum’s terminology. A manuscript, drawing or print reproduced on canvas is an interpretation of that document; its original paper, silk, pigments and gilding are not the materials of the reproduction.
