The Painter

Ford Madox Brown

1821–1893 · British · Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood

Ford Madox Brown (1821–1893) was a British painter whose work has passed into the public domain. That is what lets this studio reproduce it — any of the paintings listed below can be painted by hand, in oils on linen canvas.

Associated with Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.

Reproducing this painter

The Pre-Raphaelites painted thin colour over a wet white ground, which is what gives their pictures that jewelled, almost stained-glass intensity. The method only works if the sequence is followed exactly.
